The Story Begins in the Kitchen
I cannot pinpoint the moment when I knew that God Speaks Girl, but I do recall the moment the idea crystallized.
One of our daughters was attempting to explain multiple thoughts and feelings. The more she attempted, the more she struggled. I realized her need and heard the message trying to make its way through her words. Simultaneously, I caught her dad's face. Listening intently and lovingly, John was sifting through and navigating a language I call Girl.
I leaned over and whispered, "Just tell her that she looks great.” He did, and our daughter happily exhaled. The sound of being reassured, heard, and loved filled the kitchen. I smiled inwardly thinking, "Every girl needs to know that she is heard, seen, and loved.”

John faced me with a "what-just-happened" look, and I lovingly stated: I speak girl. That afternoon, the beginning of God Speaks Girl unfolded. The concept stuck. Like glitter on a toddler's fingers, my heart could not shake the idea. And I didn't want to shake it. I wanted to both delight in and develop the idea, the notion, the amazing truth that our heavenly Father speaks our girl language.
From that afternoon forward, I've used the concept in my home, my counseling office, and my teaching. I've used it in my own heart. Just as our daughter needed her father's words of affirmation and reassurance, I believe that others need to know and be reminded that God Speaks Girl. After all, we are His daughters.
God gets us. He loves us. God handcrafted girl language. He needs no explanation for the female, multitasking brain. He expertly travels every rabbit trail of communication. He created all things pink and the fragrance of perfume. The truth that beautiful comes in all sizes was His idea. So were hormones! He knows that every woman's polished nails might very likely be caked with play dough, baby poop, garden dirt, or grease.
God understands the occasionally messy nature of a woman's heart. He hears giggles and catches tears. He pulls us close when we cry, even the ugly kind of crying. He understands how waterproof mascara, chocolate, and a good friend can change the moment. He knows that a baby's clean bottom and a clean mammogram are both reasons for a woman to smile.
God offers grace when we make mistakes and forgiveness when we fail. He needs no explanation for why we believe that diet soda and candy bars are a perfectly acceptable combination.
God knows that whether we navigate life in stilettos, steel-toed boots, or flip-flops, we are smart, capable, full of ideas, creative, and courage-filled. Whether we decorate with tulle or drive a tank, in His eyes, we are precious, honored, and worth it.
When we communicate, we speak a unique, complex, and lovely language, and God designed it that way. So when you catch yourself wondering if He really understands the specific, unglamorous, hormonal, multitasking mess of your actual day, He does. Not in theory. Give Him the next ordinary Tuesday and watch for it.
God Speaks Girl started as my witness. It’s become an invitation to daily Scripture, honest writing, and a community of women learning to notice God in the same ordinary places I do. Download the app. Give it a week. You’ll start recognizing His voice in places you never expected to hear it.
Exhale. He hears you.
You are fully known and fully loved.
